So heres my problem.
I currently Run BF2 at the lowest settings but the game still laggs for the first 5 or so minutes from when i load up a new map.
Its not my ping which usual sits around 16-20 its my the computer itself.
Im planning on upgrading some aspects of my computer but (im a cheap) I was wondering what everyones opinion is as to what would be the best initial upgrades i should do to my computer without spending a fortune.

I was thinking, first Ram maybe 2gig, then maybe a new graphics card.... Can i get away with only partialy upgrading instead of needing a whole new system...? Any ideas?

Current Setup icon14
AMD 64, 3200+ 2.0Ghz
512 Ram
Ati Raedon x300 128mb

Cheers, mrtomek.

only 128Mb graphics card?

its hard to choose between either a RAM upgrade and graphic card upgrade though :S

you kind of need both.

RAM first IMO. The only point of buying a high-end graphics card is so you can run everything on Low, ultra-smooth, lol. :P

the biginning chug u get when BF2 runs out of RAM it uses ur HD... upgrading ur ram should minimalise this effect, so i would go for that. This assumes that ur comp runs fine however after this chug finishes... suggesting ur card is handling ok

As others have said, Ram will get rid of this problem. You need a minumum of 1gig so another 512meg ram should not set you back too much.

Then a cheap mofo gfx card to keep you in touch with the ever expanding amount of polygons and you should be a set.

Yeah... my advice would be to upgrade to 1 gig (or 2) on the cheap, or do a FULL upgrade. You should see a decent performance boost from the extra ram alone.

running 2 harddrives in raid 0 is better because that whole loading thing at the start, it goes through your bf2 files and finds if youve change or modded files.
so ram is always good but i know this speeds it up
