Ok, well my comps just over a year old now but ive only got a 6800GS.
I originally planned to get a decent card around now but because I recently bought a new monitor (1680*1050 res) and G5, i cant afford an 8800GTX or similar and am wondering what to do.
Now i would like to be able to play 2142 etc at fairly high sets on 1680*1050 with a decent frame rate. The problem is that depending on the price i probably wont be able to save enough to get another good card for atleast a year.
So my question is should i wait until i can get a 8800GTX etc which will not be for a fair while (probably atleast 6 months). or is there other cards that arent too expensive and will give the performance im looking for in 2142 and see me through new games for around a year.

No point buying a card if your only expecting that sorta lifespan from it. you want at least 2 years.

Well yeah, ild like two years.
What i meant was that i wouldn't be able to get a new card till atleast then. I Really wouldn't be upgrading again until dx10 only games that i plan to buy come around.

buy a 7900GS now, upgrade to the 8 series + when dx10 games come out (that will be in a while)

well if you're looking for a dx10 card, Nvidia have just released their 8600gt & gts models.. They average between $200-400 I think.. but they do have some issues.. The higher end dx9 cards still run faster than these do, but once dx10 games start appearing, they should start paying back the investment.. Only time will tell tho, just letting you know

now that ive got that out of my system, anyone here think its worth buying a new graphics card, or should i just wait till dx10 is out and buy a brand new computer and sell this one

How much do you have to spend?
Thats how you work it out.
For $400 you can pick up an 8800GTS 320MB (slower ram, less graphic pipes) and it will be a monster improvement...
For $275 you can pick up a 7900GTS 256MB - and again will be an improvement.
Or on Ebay you could prolly find a 7800GTX for $160-200 which will be capable of the rez if the grapic options are turned down....
Anyway my thoughts...
